By Rochelle Owusu- Antwi: Plans have been unveiled for a new exhibition at Spode's former factory site in Spring 2012.
The plans, backed by the lottery, will see a visitors centre open for a two-year period.
After the site's closure in 2008, an extensive collection of documents and ceramics dating back to the 18th century - one of the largest and most important in the world - were moved into storage.
The Spode Museum Trust plans to open the exhibition on the historic factory site as part of its wider aim to create a Spode History Centre to celebrate the company and city's long and proud heritage.
The exhibition will tell the story of the factory, its importance to the community, working conditions during the industrial revolution and high level of skill required to produce its renowned pottery.
John Democratis, Chairman of the Spode Museum Trust, said: “Of all the things that Stoke can be really proud of, Spode, its history and its marvellous museum collection are among the most important.
“By creating a living history exhibition, this is a great opportunity for local people of all ages to explore and celebrate their heritage and we will be looking to recruit volunteers from the local community to work with us.”
The Museum Trust hopes the centre will create an educational and historical hotspot that will inspire future generations and tell the story of an important part of the town’s heritage.
Spode Museum Trust is looking for volunteers to work or anyone interested in part time work at the new History Centre. Contact them by email at contact@spodemuseumtrust.org
